(Comical Seventh Doctor Voice) You Ever Hear The One About The Dark Universe?

Dark Universe By Guy Adams

Dark Universe is one of those epic stories, filled with bombast and obvious sequel lead ins, even if this is obviously a prequel to Doom Coalition and Ravenous to begin with.
This one is fun as it’s The Eleven’s (last?) hurrah, and boy does he go out with a bang, a if not perfect story, an exciting and action packed audio, which is something we don’t get very often, and which I was positively adoring all the way through. If anything, I’d compare this one to The Apocalypse Element. Seven is at his darkest and yet most whimsical, constantly making mistakes throughout that cost him dire consequences, even if he’s a Court Jester for the majority. Ace is badass as usual, but somehow even more so, now that she’s a Charity CEO. (never thought I’d be writing that)
Older Ace is actually one of this one’s highlights, tying in with the Thirteenth Doctor Book, At Childhood’s End, the Class Remembrance audio, the Season 26 trailer and the SJA finale, (that came out recently and should be watched if you even have a heart.)
The Eleven is fucking astonishing here, and easily one of the better parts. If he grated you in later Ravenous stories, you probably won’t be convinced to love him here, but for those who did like him, he’s definitely at his best...discounting his very first appearance which in terms of the character, probably won’t ever be topped.
All in all, this one is just fantastic, and although it’s not a perfect story by any means, it’s definitely one of the most fun and exciting audios of recent, and truly feels like an epic boxset, even in just 2 hours. 8.5 or 9/10.
