Torchwood: Ex Machina

Ex Machina by Alfie Shaw

People will point to Fall To Earth, Serenity or The Last Beacon as some defining Ianto stories, but for my money it's Ex Machina that takes the cake, a remarkably clever piece with some cool things to say about memory and fun concepts and really honestly crushing emotional beats. Sometimes the audios struggle to explain why there's only one Torchwood member there, but this one's explanation is absolutely brilliant for starters. Laura Aikman as Abigail is one of the better one episode only characters in this series, she plays off Ianto to great effect. Another thing that Ex Machina does incredibly well is it has Ianto as his own character, separate from his relationship with Jack, (which of course, is great, I love their relationship a great deal, but audios where Jack and Ianto are in them often end up focusing on Jack rather than Ianto, he's a bit of a spotlight hog) and so this story is set during the beginning of series one, yet another story after Cyberwoman that somehow manages to use that story's absurdity to it's sincere advantage - Ianto's mindset after these events when it's explored in audios like this and Broken is positively stellar. So yes, check it out. Ex Machina is most definitely worth your time - This close to being a 10. 9/10
