Torchwood: Iceberg

Iceberg by Grace Knight

Speaking as a decisively not Owen fan, (granted, I loved Day in the Death but that’s about it) Iceberg is a wonderful character study that takes stuff from Fragments and launches it to a new level. It has some nice thought provoking premises on what counts as humanity and our memory of other people- and generally it’s phenomenal and a release I just have to give a 10/10 to.

But weirdly, it could be better. I saw the potential for some amazing stuff to happen here, and it’s not like the moments that it has aren’t knocked out of the park: Burn Gorman screaming that he had to stop caring especially. But I do wish it did more with Katie - a story about bringing people back from the dead, with grief and loss and whatnot, other than Amira’s conversations with Owen about her after her death it doesn’t bring her up at all, especially when she could have made a brief and chilling appearance. But that’s just me being pedantic.

As it is, Iceberg is phenomenal and I certainly can’t give it another score. Check it out, even if you aren’t an Owen fan, it’s not going to give you the Corpse Day experience or anything. 10/10
